BREAST REDUCTION & RECOVERY SURGERY (MASTOPEXY & REDUCTION MAMOPLASTY)
Briefly, this surgery request arises when the breasts are large in a way that they have lost their proportion to the body. In fact this situation is not objective. The biggest reason is genetics. Those who have large breasts in their family encounter this situation more often. Generally, breasts begin to grow with puberty and if there is a genetic predisposition, breasts grow disproportionately to the body during this period. Sometimes it happens with pregnancy, and after this growth and breastfeeding, they do not return to their old size and sag. Apart from these, this situation can also be encountered when hormonal harmony is lost. The group of patients who come with a request for breast reduction surgery is generally the middle and young age group. In fact, patients avoid going to the doctor due to not being able to breastfeed or other aesthetic concerns while they are faced with this problem before marriage or breastfeeding. In proportion to the size of the breasts, sweating and fungal problems in the breast fold, bad odor in summer, neck pain and neck flattening problems accompany it. This rate seems to be slightly higher in Adana, Antalya, Istanbul and Hatay regions, which constitute the majority of our patient population.
Before breast aesthetic surgery, it is absolutely necessary to have breast ultrasonography and mammography if over the age of forty. These examinations should be performed and stored even if the patient does not have a mass complaint. A data to be compared after surgery to the breast is important for routine breast follow-ups. After the surgery, the patient should be in routine breast follow-ups like every woman. Two weeks before the operation, blood thinners such as aspirin and smoking should be stopped. Consumption of herbal products such as green tea, flax seeds, cherry stalk, tomato seeds and all weight loss products should be stopped one week before.
All breast aesthetic surgeries are performed under general anesthesia. However, under special conditions, surgery can be performed under sedation and local anesthesia. The hospital stay is one day and the patient is discharged the next day. Again, in some cases, the patient can be sent home on the evening of the surgery. We use drains in all breast surgeries and these drains are usually removed at discharge. We learn from our patients that it is not as painful as it seems.
Breast reduction surgery has many different techniques and depending on the technique to be chosen, the incision sites and therefore the surgical scars vary. No matter what technique is done, the scars do not go beyond the bikini area. With this surgery, the nipple is restored and the breast is made full, shrunken and upright. For this purpose tissues that cause weight and size and sagging skin are removed and breast tissues are collected and hung up in a three-dimensional plan. If the breasts are both sagging and large, they can be brought to the appropriate size and perpendicularity with the recovery while the excess tissues are removed in this surgery. You can have breasts without the need to use a bra after the surgery.
Breast reduction or lift surgery cannot be traceless. This situation cannot be resolved by any method other than surgery. Depending on the technique to be used, round at the border of dark-light area at the nipple, 5-6 cm descending from here. long vertical and horizontal in the breast fold area, there are traces (Inverted '' T ''). Breast reduction surgery takes approximately 2.5 -3 hours. This period may vary slightly with the size of the breasts. Since the patient is under anesthesia during the operation, he does not feel any pain. When he wakes up and goes to his room, he has mild pain that will be relieved with painkillers. 4 hours after coming to the room, he starts to be fed with liquid foods and if he does not feel nauseated, he can be fed as he wants. The patient, who eats and drinks, gets up and walks. Since the incisions will be closed with a special tape, there is no need for dressing. Two days after the drain is removed (usually at discharge), he takes a normal bath without protecting the surgical site. It can dry the stitched areas with special tapes with a hair dryer. Within three to five days after discharge, he/she can easily perform daily activities such as driving. At the end of the first week, he can return to sports activities such as walking. At the end of the third week, he can participate in all sports activities except heavy exercises of the chest and arm. After one and a half months, no sports restrictions are applied. For a month, she has to wear a non-wired sports bra day and night.
After the surgery, the breasts that stand up and upright will shift down a little towards the end of the second and third week and gain a more natural appearance. The breasts take their full shape within three months. Unless there is a special situation, routine mammography and/or ultrasonography examinations are performed at the end of the first year.
There is a risk, however small, associated with breastfeeding after breast reduction (and recovery) surgery. It can be said that this risk is actually similar to women who have not had surgery.
